WASTE MANAGEMENT ENCOURAGES VENTURA COUNTY RESIDENTS TO SUBMIT COMMENTS ON PROPOSED EXPANSION
The public comment period for the Environmental Impact Report (EIR) ends December 28, 2009

Simi Valley, December 21, 2009 - Waste Management would like to remind community members to submit any comments or concerns they have regarding the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center's EIR before the December 28, 2009 deadline.

Waste Management has been working closely with the community to raise awareness by hosting a variety of events, including a "Networking Breakfast," informational sessions and by offering tours to over 100 residents at a Community Open House.

"Input of the community is vital to the success of this project," said Lisa Hemenway, Community Relations Manager for Waste Management. "We strongly encourage anyone with questions, concerns or comments to submit them as soon as possible."

Comments should be sent to Case Planner Becky Linder at Ventura County Resource Management Agency, Planning Division, 800 S. Victoria Ave., L#1740, Ventura, CA 93009-1740. Comments can also be e-mailed to becky.linder@ventura.org.

A copy of the draft EIR is available at http://www.ventura.org/rma/planning/ceqa/eir.html.

"We look forward to addressing all community concerns and comments," Hemenway said.

Waste Management provides Ventura County with recycling, trash hauling and solid waste disposal through G.I. Industries and the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center. Waste Management has owned and operated G.I. Industries since 1998 and the SVLRC site since 1983 and employs more than 230 people in Ventura County. The SVLRC provides approximately 60% of Ventura County's daily refuse disposal needs. The company operates a "green power" program at the site that generates enough power for 2,500 homes, and clean-burning LNG powers 38 of its trucks. Waste Management is a significant contributor to area community groups. For more information visit our website www.keepingventuracountyclean.com.
